Ground Penetrating Radar Concrete Imaging
Encompass Inspections was contacted by a local gas facility site manager needing to identify rebar and other anomalies within the concrete slab prior to saw cutting concrete for a construction project in one of their warehouses.
How We Responded
A locate technician was dispatched from Encompass Inspections NorCal office and arrived on the jobsite in Richmond, California within 24 hours of the project request. Once a project walk was completed with the site manager to understand the entire scope of work, Encompass Inspections set out to inspect and mark out all of the existing subsurface reinforcements.
Results We Delivered
The concrete scan revealed the rebar reinforcement within the concrete slab and also subsurface utilities within the proposed saw cut path and excavation area. The concrete imaging and sub surface locate was performed by utilizing Ground Penetrating Radar. Upon completing the GPR scanning, the results were marked directly onto the surface allowing the site manager to perform their saw cutting and excavation safely and without any damage to the structure or job site personnel.
Using ground penetrating radar technologies, it greatly reduced the project costs by allowing the project to be marked out accurately and efficiently. Safety is paramount at this facility, by performing concrete scanning to identify in slab targets as well as sub surface utilities, Encompass Inspections was able to keep the safety record of this facility intact.
